NVIDIA RTX 4080 Super Price: $999 Launch MSRP, Specs and Buy vs Rent

The RTX 4080 Super is NVIDIA's January 2024 refresh of the RTX 4080: the full AD103 chip, slightly faster memory, and a $200 lower launch price. For AI work its limit is the 16GB of VRAM. It runs 7B models at FP16, but an 8B model at FP16 already fills the card, and anything 13B or larger needs 8-bit or 4-bit quantization.

TL;DR: RTX 4080 Super price

  • Price: The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER has a launch MSRP of $999 (Jan 31, 2024).
  • Specs: RTX 4080 Super: 16GB GDDR6X, 736 GB/s, 10,240 CUDA cores, 320W.
  • Availability: The RTX 4080 Super is out of production, so most cards on sale are used and priced by the resale market.
  • Rent: Spheron does not rent the RTX 4080 Super; the closest card it rents is the RTX 4090 (24GB) from $0.48/hr on-demand, live as of Oct 20, 2026.
  • Break-even: $999 buys about 2,080 hours of RTX 4090 rental at that rate, before power and the host machine.

RTX 4080 Super price history

  1. $999Launch MSRP

The RTX 4080 Super launched at $999. $200 under the original RTX 4080's $1,199. Replaced by the RTX 50 series.

Buy the RTX 4080 Super or rent a cloud GPU

Buy one if it doubles as your gaming or creative card and your AI work is 7B-class models, small LoRA fine-tunes or image generation at SDXL resolution.

Rent instead when a job needs more than 16GB. Paying by the hour for a 24GB or 32GB card is cheaper than buying a second GPU you only need some of the time.

RTX 409024GB

Same Ada Lovelace generation with 24GB instead of 16GB, enough for a 13B model at 8-bit or a 30B-class model at 4-bit.

$0.48/hr on-demandlive as of Oct 20, 2026$999 = about 2,080 hours
RTX 509032GB

32GB of GDDR7 and Blackwell FP4 support for models that do not fit in 16GB at all.

L40S48GB

48GB with ECC when a 16GB card means constant quantization and offloading.

RTX 4080 Super price FAQ

What the RTX 4080 Super costs, what it runs, and when renting beats buying.

The GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER launched on Jan 31, 2024 at an MSRP of $999, $200 below the original RTX 4080's $1,199. It has since been replaced by the RTX 50 series, so remaining stock is priced by retailers and the used market.

It is enough for 7B models at FP16 with a short context, 8B models at 8-bit, and 13B-14B models at 4-bit quantization. An 8B model at FP16 needs about 16GB for weights alone, so it does not fit with any KV cache. 30B-class and larger models need offloading to system RAM, which slows generation sharply. For those, a 24GB or 32GB card is the practical floor.

At $999, buying the RTX 4080 Super costs the same as about 2,080 hours of renting the RTX 4090 on Spheron, the closest card it rents at $0.48/hr on-demand (live as of Oct 20, 2026). At eight hours a day that is about 0.7 years of use, before electricity, the host machine and resale value. If the card would be busy for less than that, renting costs less; if it would run longer, buying usually wins.
