NVIDIA RTX A6000 Price: $4,650 List Price, Specs and Buy vs Rent

The RTX A6000 is NVIDIA's Ampere workstation card: 48GB of ECC memory in a dual-slot blower design that stacks four to a workstation. That 48GB is why it still sells for AI work, since it holds a 30B-class model at 8-bit or a 70B model at 4-bit on one card. Its successors are the RTX 6000 Ada and the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell.

TL;DR: RTX A6000 price

  • Price: The NVIDIA RTX A6000 has a list price of $4,650 (Oct 5, 2020).
  • Specs: RTX A6000: 48GB GDDR6 ECC, 768 GB/s, 10,752 CUDA cores, 300W.
  • Rent: Spheron does not rent the RTX A6000; the closest card it rents is the L40S (48GB) from $0.96/hr on-demand, live as of Oct 20, 2026.
  • Break-even: $4,650 buys about 4,840 hours of L40S rental at that rate, before power and the host machine.

Buy the RTX A6000 or rent a cloud GPU

Buy one if you need 48GB in an on-premises workstation, you use the certified pro drivers for CAD or visualization alongside AI, or your data cannot leave your building.

Rent instead if the work is mainly AI. An L40S gives the same 48GB with FP8, and you pay per hour rather than tying up the A6000's list price in a card that is two generations old.

L40S48GB

Same 48GB with ECC on the newer Ada Lovelace generation, with FP8 Tensor Cores the A6000 lacks.

RTX PRO 600096GB

96GB of GDDR7 on one card, twice the A6000's memory without an NVLink pair.

Spheron rates are live from the marketplace when this page was built; a rate marked last offered is the most recent one on record, with its date. Hours are the RTX A6000's $4,650 list price divided by the hourly rate, before electricity, the host machine and resale value. See current GPU pricing for every GPU Spheron rents.

RTX A6000 price FAQ

What the RTX A6000 costs, what it runs, and when renting beats buying.

NVIDIA lists the RTX A6000 at $4,650, the price it announced in October 2020. Resellers and OEM workstation builders often charge more, especially for cards bundled into a system, so the price you pay depends on the channel.

Both have 48GB of GDDR6 with ECC and a 300W power budget. The RTX 6000 Ada moves to the Ada Lovelace architecture with 18,176 CUDA cores, 4th generation Tensor Cores with FP8 and 960 GB/s of bandwidth, against 10,752 cores and 768 GB/s on the A6000. The A6000 keeps NVLink, which the 6000 Ada dropped.

At 4-bit quantization, yes: a 70B model needs roughly 35-40GB for weights, which fits in 48GB with a modest KV cache. At FP16 a 70B model needs about 140GB, so it takes two A6000s over NVLink plus offloading, or a larger GPU.

At $4,650, buying the RTX A6000 costs the same as about 4,840 hours of renting the L40S on Spheron, the closest card it rents at $0.96/hr on-demand (live as of Oct 20, 2026). At eight hours a day that is about 1.7 years of use, before electricity, the host machine and resale value. If the card would be busy for less than that, renting costs less; if it would run longer, buying usually wins.
